Warspite Lake
Distance: 4 km
Elevation Gain: 120 m
Looking for a snowshoe trip to take friends on? Look no further than Warspite Lake enroute to Black Prince Cirque.
The trail offers backcountry bliss in winter for novices and experts alike. A beautiful, ancient snow forest covered with Witches Hair Lichen and Alpine Fir. A boulder field covered with snow pillows, easy navigation and birdsongs. A snow drifted subalpine lake surrounded by the imposing cliffs of Mt. Black Prince. A loop trail near the lake and only one big hill at the start! Those with more confidence navigating through avalanche terrain can continue on towards the upper slopes of the valley.
In the past, this valley was closed due to a mother Grizzly denning in the area. In the shadow of Mt. Black Prince, this shady region is lush and full of wildlife, be aware. We noticed a willowy meadow with moose sign near the boulder field. A taste of the deep wilderness is not too far from the trailhead.
In total, the trip was 2 1/2 hours including snacks and coffee at the lake.
