Kananaskis Dam towards Horseshoe Canyon

October 2016

Distance: 3.4 km Round Trip

Elevation gain: Negligible

A pleasant hike that takes in a placid stretch of the Bow river between the Kananaskis and Horsehoe dams.  Great for a short day or a hike with kids.  We begin near Seebe, at the foot of the Kananaskis Dam a century old structure in place of what must have been oneimg_1286 of the greatest falls of K-Country.

We explore the smooth rocks by the water’s edge before heading east along the edge of the valley, high above the water.  We pass through rose and sage meadows with stretches of shady forest.  The forest opens. The water speeds up then appears placid as we approach a narrowing.  Canyon walls rise as the views of the peaks of the Ghost region appear.  We turn around as the Canyon deepens as it approaches Horseshoe dam.  Go further and find what sights await.
